Man Ran Over And Killed His Father During Argument On PCH: Prosecutors

A man was charged with murder after allegedly running over his father during an argument in Long Beach, according to police.

LONG BEACH, CA — A Pomona man was charged with murdering his father in West Long Beach, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.

The victim, 59-year-old Juan Morales experiencing homelessness in Wilmington, was run over and killed in the morning on Sunday in the area of Santa Fe Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. According to the Long Beach Police Department. Morales and his son, 35-year-old Juan Manuel Morales Jr., were involved in a dispute at the time.

While detectives were investigating, LBPD responded to reports of an unwelcome person at a business in Long Beach, where they recognized Morales' vehicle. Police identified the "unwelcome person" at the business as Morales Jr.

According to police, Morales Jr. refused to leave the building and was uncooperative with officers.

"After refusing to comply with officers’ commands, officers deployed pepper spray and 40mm less-lethal rounds which were unsuccessful. Officers subsequently used a conducted electrical weapon and were able to take the suspect into custody," LBPD said in a statement.

Morales Jr. was medically cleared before he was booked at Long Beach City Jail on suspicion of murder as well as having two outstanding warrants. His bail was set at $2.35 million.
