🎄 The Worst Christmas Songs?
Christmas is around the corner. Songs of the season are everywhere. However, some tunes are better than others. Last year, Rolling Stone compiled a list of the worst Christmas songs of all time. Which song is the one that is the worst in your book? So far, we have:

  • NewSong, ‘The Christmas Shoes’ - 40%
  • The Jackson 5, ‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus’ - 30%
  • Seth MacFarlane and Sara Bareilles, ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ - 10%
  • Band Aid, ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ - 10%
  • The Pussycat Dolls, ‘Santa Baby’ - 10%

📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

1) On Friday, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) received calls over shots fired in the 500 block of Daisy Avenue. Officers arrived just after 8 p.m. and located an adult male victim, who is currently in critical condition. Reportedly, “an unknown suspect shot the victim and fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.” (LBPD)

2) Back in 2021, Councilmember Cindy Allen motioned to create a Commission on Women and Girls. On Wednesday, the City announced that it is ready to move forward and wants “community input to inform the new panel’s overall mission.” You can weigh in until December 19. If you would like to do so in person, head to the community centers in “Houghton Park, Cesar E. Chavez Park, Ernest S. McBride Park, El Dorado Park, MacArthur Park, Bixby Park, King Park, or Admiral Kidd Park.” The new commission has an annual budget of $115,200. (Press-Telegram)

3) The Foundation Sandwich Shop at 160 The Promenade North is no more. However, its storefront did not remain shuttered for long. Earlier in November, Poke Pub opened its doors! It “offers an array of customizable fresh poke and barbecue options for bowls, along with Hawaiian beers.” Other specialties include “tofu bowls, and avocado and cucumber handrolls . . . (and) bulgogi, spicy pork and chicken teriyaki, which can be used to make a bowl or a burrito.” (Long Beach Post)

4) The hunt is on for fresh-cut Christmas trees! This year, check out the Armstrong Garden Center at 3842 East 10th Street. If you don’t find something to your liking, head to Home Depot on Cherry Avenue or Spring Street. Another option is Lowe’s on Bellflower Boulevard or Carson Street. If you wait too long, you may find that your only option is the occasional tree lot that pops up. Examples include Todd’s Christmas Trees at 645 Ximeno or Snowy Pines at 6701 CA-1. (Patch)

5) City officials are serious about revitalizing Lincoln Park at 101 Pacific Avenue. Reopened in February, and promptly vandalized a few days later, the goal is to bring more positive foot traffic to the area. Right now, there are dog obedience classes, active sports on the lawn by the skate park, flow yoga on the small lawn, and Bollywood Dance! “Inclusion is at the forefront of Lincoln Park’s programming, and this includes the city’s unhoused population, who do have a presence in the park.” Looking ahead, organizers are hoping to attract concert promoters and film festival hosts.
