Officers responded to a <a href="https://www.longbeach.gov/police/news/lbpd-blotter-jan-4-2026/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">report of a shooting and street takeover</a> just after 1:30 a.m. in the 6600 block of Downey Avenue, the Long Beach Police Department said. Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputies also responded to the area first and helped the man, who had been shot in the lower body, police said. Los Angeles County fire officials then took the man to a hospital, where he was in stable condition, according to police. While police initially reported the shooting had happened during a street takeover, the department said additional investigation showed the two incidents were unrelated. Police said an initial investigation showed the man was shot during an attempted robbery, adding that detectives are working to identify and arrest the male suspect.
