Man Shot, Murdered In Long Beach Home: Police

The Long Beach Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a man dead in his home early Wednesday morning.

LONG BEACH, CA — A man was shot and killed inside his home early Wednesday morning in Long Beach, according to police.

The Long Beach Police Department responded to the 2200 block of Chestnut Avenue at about 2:36 a.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man inside the home with a gunshot wound in his upper body.

Officers and paramedics attempted life-saving measures to treat the man before he was taken to a local hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, authorities said.

According to preliminary investigation results, the victim was shot inside his home and the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. The motive and circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner.
