Man Shot While Trying To Take Gun From Would-Be Robber: LBPD

A man who was almost robbed at gunpoint was shot while struggling with the suspect to disarm him, Long Beach police said.

LONG BEACH, CA — A man was shot while trying to wrestle a gun from a would-be robber late Wednesday night, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

A local hospital notified police that a man had driven himself to the hospital after being shot at about 10:09 p.m. The victim told police he was walking near the 2700 block of Bellflower Boulevard when a man with a firearm attempted to rob him.

"A struggle for the firearm ensued between the suspect and victim when the firearm discharged, striking the victim in the upper body," LBPD said in a statement.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived and no information about his identity was available, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
