Man Stabbed While Walking Near Long Beach High School

The stabbing happened Wednesday night in the 1600 block of West 20th Street, police said.

LONG BEACH, CA — A man was hospitalized Wednesday evening after being stabbed while walking near Cabrillo High School in Long Beach, authorities said.

The man was walking in the 1600 block of West 20th Street around 5:48 p.m. when another man approached him and stabbed him multiple times in the upper body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police say officers responded to the area of Harbor Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, less than a half-mile from where the stabbing took place, and found the victim.

He was taken by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital for treatment, police said, adding that his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

It's unclear what prompted the stabbing or if the two men knew each other. Police said a motive and suspect information are under investigation.
