📰 Here are the top five stories today in Long Beach:

1) We have an update on the police activity at East Ocean Boulevard and Corona Avenue. The LBPD announced Thursday that the deceased male is a 41-year-old L.A. resident who “sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.” If you have any information, please contact Homicide Detectives Sean Magee or Juan Carlos Reyes at (562) 570-7244. (LBPD)

2) Thursday afternoon, a snake mystery occurred near Pier Point Park. A man found a largesnake’s body, which appeared to be wearing a black T-shirt.” Within an hour, the body had disappeared. We don’t know what type of snake it was, how it died, where it came from, and who removed it. (Long Beach Post)

3) We learned on Friday that there’s a red tide off Alamitos Beach. Authorities blame the recent heat wave. “While not all algal blooms pose a threat, they can be considered harmful to the environment because some organisms produce toxins that can have harmful effects on people and wildlife.” At this time, we don’t know whether this red tide is a threat. (Long Beach Post)

4) The second annual Long Beach Oktoberfest is on! Scheduled for September 23 through October 9, Festmeister Hans und Die Sauerkrauts will provide the entertainment at Scottish Rite at 855 Elm Avenue. And even if 23andMe didn’t find an ounce of German ancestry in your genes, you can still “don your Lederhosen or Dirndl” and participate in “sing-alongs, dance-alongs, wacky games, contests and so much more.” Zum Wohlsein! (Long Beach Oktoberfest)

5) Mark your calendars! There is a Mayoral Candidate Forum on Wednesday! The Long Beach League of Women Voters and Long Beach State Student Government put the event together. It takes place in the USU Auditorium at 5:30 p.m. Rex Richardson and Suzie Price will answer questions. (CSU LB ASI)
