Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:

  1. The LBPD was VERY busy in the early morning hours of Tuesday. At 1:23 a.m., officers headed to “the intersection of Orange Avenue and Goldfield Avenue” where they connected with a victim of a car-to-car shooting. At 2:05 a.m., they went “to the area of 67th Street and Atlantic Avenue” where an argument ended with a stabbing. At 3:14 a.m., the cops headed to “the 400 block of West Cowles Street” to deal with a stabbing and robbery. Around 3:41 a.m., the LBPD arrived in “the 2000 block of Beverly Plaza” where someone was threatened with a gun. (LBPD)
  2. A business is abandoning Pine Avenue due to “building issues coupled with growing homelessness on Pine.” The Waters Edge Winery closed its 217 Pine Avenue business on Tuesday. There is no new location on record. In the meantime, visit the “Waters Edge Wine Bar and Lounge on Alamitos Bay Landing.” (LB Business Journal)
  3. Long Beach now has nine cases of monkeypox. In its Monday announcement, health officials explained that “each reported contracting the virus through prolonged close skin-to-skin contact, including intimate contact, during the 21 days prior to their symptoms.” You may remember that the City reported “its first case on July 16.” (LB Post)
  4. On Monday, the Long Beach Police Officers Association announced the arrival of several handsome new partners. They are LBPD K9s James, Virgil and Odin. “Happy to have these great partners working with their sworn police officer handlers to keep our community safe.” (LBPOA)
  5. Mark your calendars! The third annual Filipino Festival will take place on August 6 at St. Lucy Catholic School. "This year’s event is set to return strong with over 50 retail, food, and community vendors, two stages with performances and live music, and appearances from Filipino celebrities." Headliners include Rex Navarrete and Jo Awayan. (The HiLo)
