🍪 Holiday Treats Poll! 🎄
December is the month for holiday treats and goodies. Which is your favorite?
📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
1) Three housing developments that would bring 1,353 units to the city are getting community pushback. A report outlined on Wednesday that the developments are “currently occupied by commercial buildings, including retail and office space.” These are the office building at 6615 East Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), the Marina Shores retail center at 6500 East PCH, and an office building at 6700 East PCH. Criticisms are aimed at building heights, increasing traffic congestion, and adverse effects on the Los Cerritos Wetlands. At this time, the Coastal Commission still has to weigh in. (Long Beach Business Journal)
2) A shoutout to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) South Division! Officers visited Cesar Chavez Elementary School at 730 West 3rd Street to give students an early Christmas. We learned on Wednesday that officers chose to celebrate Giving Tuesday “by purchasing toys with their own money and delivering them to some smiling youngsters” at the school. (LBPD South, Long Beach Police Officers Association)
3) The Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) is holding its annual Spark of Love Toy Drive. The department announced on Tuesday that you can participate by placing new, unwrapped toys, school supplies and sports equipment in “a toy donation box either placed outside or inside” your local fire station. Teachers of the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) “identify special need families throughout the year. Firefighters also see hardships in the areas they serve and can recommend families.” The big event is the “CODE 3 Delivery Day, where we make rounds all through the city with Santa in his fire engine sleigh.” (Long Beach Fire Department, Friends of Long Beach Fire)
4) The Partake Collective at 456 Elm Avenue is open! We learned on Tuesday that the ghost kitchen dining hall is quickly becoming a must-visit destination in East Village. Tenants, right now, are Thai District, Mochi Dochi, Bubu Teriyaki, The Cave Prime Steak, and MealsDotKom. A Mexican vegan eatery will be coming in soon. There's room for three more tenants, and we’re waiting to find out who they will be. (Long Beach Business Journal)
5) Mark your calendars! The second annual Long Beach International Tamales Festival is this Sunday! Head to Long Beach City College at 1305 East PCH between noon and 7 p.m. Enjoy “tamales from different regions of Latin America, Latin-inspired dishes, drinks, tequila tastings, live music, art workshops for kids, and more!” Confirmed vendors include Taquería El Fuego and Shane’s Tamales. Yum! (Long Beach Home Living)
