Pedestrian Killed In Crash Near Cal State Long Beach

The crash happened early Thursday morning in the area of East Seventh Street and Channel Drive, according to police.

LONG BEACH, CA — A man died early Thursday morning when he was struck by a car near Cal State Long Beach, according to police.

Police say the man had been lying in the roadway sometime around 2:38 a.m. in the area of East Seventh Street and Channel Drive. At some point, a 28-year-old driver from Garden Grove traveling eastbound on Seventh Street hit him, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the crash and pronounced the pedestrian dead, according to the LBPD. The man's identity was not immediately revealed as the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office works to notify his relatives of the death.

The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. Speed, impaired driving or distracted driving do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.

This is the third crash near CSULB in nearly as many weeks. Another pedestrian died on April 23 when he walked into the roadway at Seventh Street and Channel Drive and was struck by two cars.

Two men also died on May 7 in a wrong-way crash on Seventh Street and Terraine Avenue.
