⏰ New Year’s Resolutions Poll! 🎶
According to Forbes, only 8% of people making New Year’s resolutions actually achieve them. Even so, the experts suggest making resolutions because they encourage intentionality, optimism, and a positive effect on others. So, what are your resolutions for 2023? So far, 20% intend to meet new people or interact more with current friends. Letting go of negativity is the goal for 15%, and 10% want to travel or experience something new. Another 30% want to live healthier, and the final 25% plan to embrace change.
📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
- Reportedly, a property on Elm Avenue is home to 16 pedophiles. It’s two blocks away from Bobbie Smith Elementary at 565 East Hill Street. We learned on Wednesday, from a British publication no less, that there are “more than 400 'pedophile dens' of up to 18 sexual predators all living at the same California address.” The reporter unearthed other local venues, such as “a 5-unit apartment building on Orange Avenue in the city with four pedophiles that is less than 1,000 ft from Franklin Classical Middle School,” at 540 Cerritos Avenue. If you haven’t checked your area via the Megan's Law database, now might be a good time. (Daily Mail)
- True to his word, Mayor Rex Richardson launched the city’s “new Homeless Services and Information Hub webpage” on Wednesday. It's a combination of outreach tool and information-gathering site. Already, “every day, staff from the Health Department’s Homeless Services Bureau and its community partners conduct outreach in Long Beach, engaging people who are experiencing homelessness and offering emergency shelter, transportation, access to service providers and opportunities for housing.” (City of Long Beach)
- The Onni East Village expects to open phase one of the project on February 1. It consists of “a 24-story, 190-unit high-rise of one-, two- and three-bedroom units.” "Onni East Village is currently pre-leasing, with 8% of units currently pre-leased," but the cost of a monthly lease is between $2,858 and $15,046 for the penthouse. (Long Beach Business Journal)
- The Makersville Studio will reopen today, Friday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The upstairs location at 419 Shoreline Village Drive has been closed since March. However, according to the venue’s co-founder, “this winter specialty activities will be hosted by Paula Tsoiasue (Rube Goldberg training and competition), LeClair Pearson (jigsaw puzzle making) and Mike Wellman.” (Press-Telegram/paywall)
- Work off some of the holiday calories at the Cozy Christmas Run on Sunday. Complete with mistletoe at the finish line, you can participate in a St. Nick costume contest. Although this is a small, informal event, leave Fido at home. Runners meet at 7:30 a.m. at 5400 East Ocean Boulevard. You’ll see the check-in at the start of the beach path. (Run Sign Up)
