Hundreds of thousands of race fans packed Downtown Long Beach over the weekend for the 48th annual Acura Grand Prix.
LONG BEACH, CA — Hundreds of thousands of race fans packed Downtown Long Beach over the weekend for the 48th annual Acura Grand Prix.
The cheers of the crowd were almost as loud as the roaring engines zooming over 200 miles per hour down Shoreline Drive. From Friday to Sunday, the weekend event was jammed with activities and races, including the headlining NTT Indycar Series.
Along with the races food trucks, concerts, the Lifestyle Expo, Mothers Exotic Car Paddock and Family Fun Zone entertained guests throughout the weekend. City officials also attended the event and shared their excitement just before the main event on Sunday.

"As Mayor of Long Beach, it is my honor to welcome you to the 48th annual Long Beach Grand Prix," May0r Rex Richardson told the crowd of race fans. "We know that this is a tradition that we will continue to support. It is great for jobs, it is great for our city, and we want to make sure that all of you continue to come back for year 49 and year 50 in two years."
All of the energy came to a head on Sunday during the final race of the NTT Indycar Series, where drivers did 85 laps on the nearly 2-mile street course. American racer Kyle Kirkwood reigned victorious at the end, followed by Romain Grosjean in second and Marcus Ericsson in third.

"I did not even want to try to go for the win this weekend," Grosjean said. "I would have been taking too much risk."
