Police Warn Of Scammers Staging Crashes To Steal From Drivers

The scammers trick drivers into pulling over by claiming they hit their car or will cut them off and force them to stop, police said.

LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach police are warning the public of scammers staging crashes to steal from people once they pull over.

The scammers trick drivers into pulling over by claiming they hit their car or will cut them off and force them to stop, police said, the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement on social media.

The scammer will then have the victim exit their car to assess damages, police said. That's when the scammer or an accomplice will go into the victim's vehicle and steal whatever items they can before fleeing, police said.
