- On Wednesday, the LBPD arrested a 64-year-old man on suspicion of “second-degree robbery, being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm and illegally possessing ammunition.” Officers believe he could be responsible for four recent commercial burglaries occurring around the Christmas holiday. However, they don’t think he is connected to the four burglaries happening Sunday morning. (LB Post)
- On Thursday afternoon, a motorcycle officer from the Seal Beach PD was injured in a single-vehicle crash. The accident happened near Studebaker Road and Second Street, which is near the Marina Pacifica Shopping Center. The officer sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. (OC Register/paywall)
- A woman from Lakewood was assaulted and robbed inside her LB dentist’s office. A video of the assault shows the perpetrator dragging her outside and then robbing her. Her phone was stolen in the process, but she was able to locate it with a ping feature. Surprisingly, the LBPD officers “weren’t coming out, we called them about four times, we had to call the Lakewood Police Department as well, no one was coming out, we waited for three hours.” “That’s something we’ll be looking into,” said an officer from the PD when asked about the lack of a response. (Fox 11)
- Friday morning’s rush hour on the 405 Freeway at Palo Verde Road began with a collision between a big rig and a car a little after 6 a.m. About three hours later, the right lane reopened. After 11 a.m., all lanes were opened again. (Daily Breeze/paywall)
- The Hideaway Steakhouse at 4137 East Anaheim Street closed down on New Year's Day. Geoff Rau, the owner, “confirmed that he is abandoning the Hideaway to make way for a saloon-inspired, Central- and South-American food concept.” After losing Chef Arthur Gonzalez of Panxa, Rau is changing culinary direction to reopen the venue Selva, a Colombian restaurant. “Selva’s menu will feature Colombian small and shared plates, as well as a full bar and craft cocktail concept” and have a wood fire grill. The eatery plans to open on February 2 with a new chef in the kitchen. (Longbeachize, The HiLo)
