📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

1) There were a couple of no-hit shootings on Monday. Around 11:35 p.m., someone fired shots in the 5300 block of Linden Avenue. Earlier, at 11:09 p.m., someone did the same thing in the 400 block of West 14th Street. While there was ample proof that shots had been fired, there were no victims or suspects. (LBPD)

2) Homicide detectives made five arrests! The LBPD announced on Monday that they had suspects in the murder of a 27-year-old man who was found “floating in the water near the 1100 Block of Pier F of the Long Beach Harbor” on April 26, 2021. A little over a year later, they arrested five suspects ranging in age from 24 to 38. None are residents of Long Beach. “While the investigation remains active and ongoing, at this time detectives believe the motive to be gang-related.” (City of LB)

3) Laserfiche does business at 3443 Long Beach Boulevard, and its building might just be a new trend for the city. For starters, the building follows a “mid-century modern garden-style motif.” In addition, we learned on Tuesday that it is built on a “former oil well site that had been considered undevelopable.” “The project began with capping eight abandoned oil wells and included the removal of several storage tanks.” Now, the 102,840 square foot building stands four floors tall and includes a parking garage. (BDC Network)

4) In August, we reported on the City Council’s plans to “strike a balance between physical restaurants and food trucks in the city.” There’s already push-back against an ordinance that hasn’t been written yet. “A national nonprofit law firm warned Monday that the steps the city appears to be taking to protect brick-and-mortar restaurants from competition could be unconstitutional.” “I’ve won cases using less evidence than what the Long Beach City Council has already provided,” the senior attorney said. At this time, a first draft of the ordinance may come before the City Council in April, and a vote may take place next year in October. (Long Beach Post)

5) Mark your calendars! The Long Beach Open Studio Tour is happening next month. Running from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., local artists throw open their doors and invite you into their studios. It’s free and self-guided. Uptown studios participate October 1 and 2, DTLB will do so October 8 and 9, Belmont studios will do it October 15 and 16, and Eastside artists open October 22 and 23. Download digital tour maps and visit jewelers, woodworking shops, photographers, mixed media artists, and more! (LB Open Studio Tour)
