LONG BEACH, CA — Snoop Dogg will carry the Olympic torch on Friday on its final leg around Saint-Denis in Paris, the town's mayor Mathieu Hanotin announced on X.

The Long Beach native will join many others, including French rapper MC Solaar and Ukrainian retired pole-vaulter Sergey Bubka, in carrying the flame around the area where the Olympic stadium and aquatics center are located.

Though best known for his rap and weed empire, Snoop Dogg is a major supporter of youth sports. He founded a nonprofit football league serving inner-city youth.

The Snoop Youth Football League provides the opportunity for Los Angeles area inner children between the ages of five and thirteen to participate in youth football and cheer. According to the league's website, the league aims to teach children the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and self-respect while also stressing the importance of academics.

The torch relay is inspired by practices from ancient Greece and has heralded the start of the Olympic games since they were first introduced in 1936. The Paris flame was lit in April in Olympia, Greece where the ancient Games were held.
