📰 Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:

1) There were a couple of reported stabbings over the weekend. On Saturday, at about 2:46 a.m., a man reported that he was stabbed in “the area of the southbound 710 freeway and Shoreline Drive” after getting into an argument with another man. Another stabbing occurred on Sunday around 9:43 p.m. “near the 2500 block of East Shoreline Way” when a man stabbed another and attempted to steal the victim’s necklace. (LBPD, 2)

2) Patrons leaving bars “near Pine Avenue and Third Street at 1:54 a.m. Sunday” were confronted by a 24-year-old man shooting into the air. When LBPD officers had a sit-down with the man, he informed them that he was trying “to disperse a crowd that had gathered as a result of an altercation.” Officers brought him in since “suspicion of negligent discharging a firearm” is frowned upon. The man has since been out on bond. (Long Beach Post)

3) We learned on Monday that King’s Hawaiian is sounding a recall alarm! The items in question are “Pretzel Slider Buns, Pretzel Hamburger Buns and Pretzel Bites.” The reason is a “potential microbial contamination” reported by ingredient vendor Lyons Magnus. That vendor issued a recall “due to the potential for it to cause microbial contamination, including from the organisms Cronobacter sakazakii and Clostridium botulinum.” King’s Hawaiian has not received reports of illness and found no pathogens. (KTLA)

4) Get rid of household waste you can't put in the trash can! If you have a garage full of old computer parts, spent batteries, used motor oil, old medications, and that jar full of mystery slime that could be paint, oil, or junior’s defunct science project, do not fret! There is a FREE household hazardous waste and e-waste collection event on August 27 at EDCO Recycling at 2755 California Avenue. Drop your waste off between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. (LB Public Works)

5) Mark your calendars! After getting rid of your hazardous household waste, treat yourself to music at the 11th annual Uptown Jazz Festival on Saturday, August 27 at Houghton Park, 6301 Myrtle Avenue. “It is free to attend, and will include food, a beer garden, vendors, community resources and a kids zone.” It will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and features Stephanie Mills, DW3, Take Me Back To Chicago, “Biscuits & Gravy, the Susie Hansen Latin Jazz Band, the Paulie Cerra Band, and DJ Mr. Quick.” (Press-Telegram)
