📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

1) Were you caught up in Friday evening’s SWAT activity? Right around 6:10 p.m., the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) went to Paramount Boulevard and 57th Street. A witness reported that a man with a gun went into a vacant home next door. The suspect refused to come out, SWAT rolled, and eventually officers entered the residence. “The suspect was subsequently not located. At this time, no injuries have been reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.” (LBPD)

2) On Thursday, the LBPD caught up with several burglary suspects in the 4000 block of Lakewood Boulevard. Two women and one man were seen stealing merchandise. The PD was waiting for them, recovered merchandise worth about $2,177, and arrested the male suspect for grand theft. The “two female adult suspects were released and not booked for medical purposes.” Another trio of thieves, all women, were seen stealing clothes in the same shopping center. They, too, were detained, “cited for petty theft, and released.” Merchandise recovered here was worth around $1,200. (LBPD News)

3) On Tuesday, the City Council will discuss lowering the speed limit in some areas to 20 miles per hour or less. This move is part of the “Safe Streets Beach Plan, which aimed to reduce fatal and serious injury collisions to zero by 2026.” At this time, 107 street segments are under discussion, including 2nd Street’s business corridor, 4th Street along Retro Row, and similar venues with plenty of pedestrian and bicycle traffic. (Long Beach Post)

4) Did you know that the city has a Pickleball Advisory Committee (PAC)? You may remember that we discussed the draft of a Pickleball Master Plan back in August. We learned on Friday that there is still no information on groundbreaking for proposed courts. According to the PAC, “it could be quite a ways away before the project begins.” (BeachComber, Patch)

5) If you're looking for a photo op with Santa Claus, Long Beach offers several opportunities. On certain days, you can find him at 2nd & PCH near the Ample Hills Creamery. Besides that, he also makes appearances at the Aquarium of the Pacific. And, if you want to bring your feathered, furry or scaly friend to see Santa, head to Pet Supplies Plus at 2086 North Bellflower Boulevard. Call ahead to find out when the big elf is there!
