Teen Arrested In 2024 Slaying Of Homeless Man In Long Beach

The deadly shooting happened near Long Beach's Junipero Beach on Nov. 24, 2024, police said.

LONG BEACH, CA — A 15-year-old Long Beach boy has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man near a homeless encampment in Long Beach in 2024.

Police say the teen shot and killed 51-year-old Frank Suggs at a homeless encampment in the 2600 block of Ocean Boulevard during the early hours of Nov. 24, 2024. The area is near Long Beach's Junipero Beach.

Suggs, who was shot in the upper body, died at the scene, police said.

A second man, shot multiple times by the teen, was also located nearby, police said. The man's wounds were not considered life-threatening and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

Detectives identified the teen as a suspect in Suggs' death and secured a warrant for his arrest, police said. He was taken into custody Thursday on suspicion of murder, police said, adding that he was taken to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall, where he is being held without bail.

It's unclear whether the teen and Suggs knew each other. The motive remains under investigation, according to police, and detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration.
