📰 2022 News Poll 📍
There was a lot of bad news in 2022. However, there was some great news, too. Which was your favorite good news story of 2022? So far, 50% like the collaboration to end plastic pollution, while 33% favor the news that Ethiopia’s civil war is over. The final 16.7% like news of a new malaria vaccine.
📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:
- The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) and FOX personnel collaborated in the arrest of two trespassing suspects in the 1400 block of West Anaheim Street. On Monday night, at 11:09 p.m., a 20-year-old Los Angeles resident and a 22-year-old Compton resident were apprehended. Officers found “a reciprocating saw and saw blades in their possession,” which resulted in bookings for “trespassing and possession of burglary tools.” Their bails are set at $500. (LBPD)
- Do you live in a historically significant property? If so, you could qualify for “tax incentives to maintain and preserve buildings recognized as historic landmarks or properties located within the city’s designated historic districts.” These include Belmont Heights, California Heights, the Wrigley Area and 14 more. Learn more by participating in a pre-application workshop on January 28 at Jordan High School. (KTLA, Planning Bureau)
- North Long Beach’s 51st Street Greenbelt is getting a cash infusion of $2 million! Oh sure, for years there’s been nothing but talk. However, on Wednesday, we learned that the sudden allocation of cash could result in “a walking trail, play areas for children, new trees, native landscaping and stormwater capture features” on the one-acre plot “that separates the community north of Perry Lindsey Academy from the Los Angeles River.” (Long Beach Post)
- Guys . . . we’re getting a Cassidy’s Corner Cafe at The Hangar! Wednesday’s scuttlebutt suggests it will open in the old Portola Coffee Roasters' place by February. When open, the 4150 McGowen Street location will be the third in Long Beach. The other ones are at 3846 Atlantic Avenue and the recently opened location at 5900 East Spring Street. (The HiLo)
- Become a certified Master Composter Recycler! The city is opening up its application process on January 2 at 10 a.m. If selected, you can participate in a FREE eight-week program that culminates in certification as a Master Composter Recycler. (City of Long Beach)
