📰 Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:

1) There was a fight Thursday morning around 7:15 a.m. at Broadway and Pine Avenue. By the time the LBPD arrived, the fight has escalated into a stabbing. The suspect, who was still on the scene, is a 29-year-old man who “was booked on one count of felony assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $30,000.” A similar incident occurred on Wednesday around 10:40 p.m. on the 1100 block of Via Wanda. In that case, the suspect is a 39-year-old man who was also booked. (LBPD)

2) The Eastside Playboys, a South L.A. street gang alleged to have “ties to the Mexican Mafia prison gang,” were the target of a takedown on Thursday. Officers arrested 28 suspects “on suspicion of federal racketeering, narcotics, extortion and firearms offenses.” Ten are still on the run. And while this gang is known for its Los Angeles presence, “prosecutors also allege the gang operated two unlicensed marijuana dispensaries and a drug lab in West Long Beach where they manufactured fentanyl and methamphetamine out of a warehouse at Gaylord Street and Caspian Avenue.” (Long Beach Post)

3) The City is in the process of designing a Cambodian American Cultural Center to serve “as a community hub for local and regional Cambodian and Khmer arts, culture and history.” Long Beach already has “the Museum of Latin American Art, the Pacific Island Ethnic Art Museum, the Homeland Cultural Center, and the Long Beach Japanese Cultural Center” as well as the African American Cultural Center of Long Beach. Also in the works are a Latino cultural district and LGBTQ+ cultural center and museum. If you would like to give input on the Cambodian Center, please visit Douglas MacArthur Park today, Saturday, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. (Press-Telegram)

4) The AOC7 Neighborhood Association, which stands for Anaheim, Orange, Cherry & 7th St., is hosting a Neighborhood Gathering on September 7 at 6:30 p.m. The topic of discussion will be a “$1.3 million encampment resolution and how it will assist our unhoused neighbors on the Anaheim Corridor.” The meeting takes place at 1323 Gundry Avenue, and there will be refreshments. (AOC7)

5) Mark your calendars! The LBPD hosts “a gun-buyback event from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Ramona Park, 3301 E. 65th Street” on September 10. In exchange for non-functioning firearms, you can get $50 in gift cards. For functioning guns, rifles, and shotguns, you get $100. An assault rifle is worth $200. “3D and homemade guns will be evaluated for value on the day of the event.” As always, there will be no questions asked. (211 LA County)
