Do you celebrate? 📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. A 46-year-old man “was charged with one count of murder” after setting an RV on fire at Browning Boulevard and Budlong Avenue on Monday. It’s interesting to note that he had earlier that same day argued with the RV’s occupant, which resulted in the suspect’s “arrest for a misdemeanor” and subsequent release “on his own recognizance.” Video footage reportedly shows that he returned and lit the fire. (KTLA)
  2. How much rain did the bomb cyclone drop on Los Angeles and its surrounding areas? As of Thursday afternoon, downtown L.A. received 1.79 inches. At the Los Angeles International Airport, the measurement only read 1.63 inches. Conversely, in Bel Air, 3.22 inches dropped from the sky. (NBC)
  3. Did you get the traffic advisory for the Mulholland Drive area? Friday’s report outlines that there’s “a stretch of Mulholland Drive between Bowmont Drive and Summit Circle, where the ground collapsed beneath the roadway.” The Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area at 4100 South La Cienega Boulevard experienced flooding in several areas, including the playground. More rain is also in the forecast: Prepare for another storm on Monday and Tuesday, which will again bring “moderate to heavy rainfall, high surf and strong winds.” (Spectrum News 1)
  4. We learned on Thursday that the North Figueroa Bookshop at 6040 North Figueroa Street is now open! You’ll find 3,000 titles — more or less — in an 800-square-foot space. Behind this business are indie publishers Rare Bird and Unnamed Press. “Opening a bookstore seemed like a fantastic way to offer a space not just for our neighborhood to get great books, but for cross-pollination in the literary community itself,” an Unnamed Press co-founder explained. (The Eastsider LA)
  5. Billy Idol received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday! Gen X’s favorite bad boy was honored by Henry Rollins and Shepard Fairey during the ceremony. See the latest star at 6201 Hollywood Boulevard, which is right in front of Amoeba Music. Waxing poetically, the Walk of Fame office remarked on the collaboration of Billy Idol and Steve Stevens by declaring “Steve has been Billy Idol’s sonic assassin and master blender of tones and textures, the thinking man’s shredder and the shredding man’s Picasso.” (Walk of Fame)
