Happy Friday, Los Angeles; today is National Rescue Dog Day, which has been celebrated since 2018 and traces back to Lisa Wiehebrink, author and founder of Tails That Teach! Here's everything happening today in Los Angeles.
There will be some much-needed work done along sections of the 101 this weekend. Also, why would somebody post a picture of a gun pointed at a school? Finally, Dave Chappelle’s alleged assailant is a suspect in an attempted murder case.

Poll:
Who should be the next Los Angeles Mayor? Please share your thoughts! (As of today, Rick Caruso leads the pack with 48.1% of your votes, and Karen Bass is in second place with 28.2%. Kevin De Leon comes in third with 10.7%.)
Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:
- Mark your calendars! Sections of the 101 Freeway will shut down at 10 p.m. on Saturday. The city plans for necessary roadwork to be done by 10 p.m. on Sunday. Planned actions include “median restoration and reconstruction repairs to the 101 Freeway under the historic 6th Street Viaduct.” (City of L.A.)
- Beverly Hills High School on South Moreno Drive received a “shelter in place” order on Thursday at around 1 p.m. “Authorities were made aware of a photo on social media depicting what appeared to be a gun pointed in the direction of the high school.” The LAPD located the suspected poster and found an airsoft gun. By 4:10 p.m., the “shelter in place” order was lifted. (My News LA)
- There’s more trouble for comedian Dave Chappelle’s alleged assailant. The 23-year-old man was charged on Thursday with “one count of attempted murder for allegedly stabbing his roommate during a fight at a transitional housing apartment on Dec. 2.” According to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, “the publicity generated by the attack on Mr. Chappelle helped police solve this crime.” (Patch)
- You may or may not like billionaire mayoral candidate Rick Caruso, but rapper Snoop Dogg sure does. “We’re a part of whatever you’re a part of, as far as bringing love to the community and keeping people there that were a part of the community,” the artist told Caruso in a call on Tuesday. On the other hand, Rep. Karen Bass has actor-rapper Donald Glover endorsing her. (LA Times)
- In other mayoral election news, business exec Craig Greiwe may not have high poll numbers, but he held a press conference Wednesday. There, he challenged his fellow candidates to “answer important questions about your campaign, while hooked up to a polygraph test, and share the results with the public.” While it makes great TV, the American Psychological Association says “there is little evidence that polygraph tests can accurately detect lies.” (KTLA)
