(Patch Media)

Hi all; today is the anniversary of the first parking meter, which was installed in Oklahoma City in 1935. It's me, Sylvia, your host of the Los Angeles Daily. Here's everything you need to know about what's happening in town.

Why were a 14 and 15-year-old chased by the Sheriff’s Department? Also, there was another attempt to steal a watch. Finally, LADOT wants your input on DTLA improvements.

💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 17.3% want to mandate drought-resistant landscaping, 19.2% want to recycle wastewater for irrigation, another 42.3% want to build a desalination plant at the coast, and 21.2% don’t believe residential water use contributes to the water crisis.

Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. A high-speed chase of a “Kia Sportage with Oregon plates” turned deadlyon South Central Avenue near the 105.” On Thursday, at around 3 p.m., two young teens were chased by the Sheriff’s Department. The kids “slammed into multiple vehicles near the 105 Freeway ramp.” The teens were badly injured, but a motorist in a red sedan “was declared dead at the scene.” He was an “innocent driver.” (ABC)
  2. There was an attempted watch theft on Thursday evening “near the intersection of Melrose and Orange Grove avenues.” The LAPD was alerted by a witness. One officer opened fire, but the “attempted robbers fled west on Melrose Avenue in a black SUV.” (KTLA)
  3. LADOT wants to hear from you! If you “live, work or play in DTLA help prioritize transportation improvements in the area by leaving your feedback on our Downtown Mobility Investment Plan.” It gives you a voice in Little Tokyo pedestrian enhancements, transit improvement on Olympic Boulevard and 9th Street and gap closures on the LA River Bike Path (among other things). (LADOT, 2)
  4. In a listing of the best cities for renters, Los Angeles is No. 124. At the top is Columbia, MD. At the bottom, there is Detroit, MI. The elements the experts looked at were “quality of life” and “rental market and affordability.” In California, San Bernardino was at the bottom of the list at No. 180 out of 182. San Francisco is near the top at No. 14. (WalletHub)
  5. Mark your calendars! The free public boat tours at the L.A. Port are coming back on July 30! You don’t have to make reservations. “Tours will depart every half-hour between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. from the Los Angeles Maritime Museum at Sixth Street and Harbor Boulevard in San Pedro.” If you want to bring your four-legged friend along, attend the tours “at 11 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.,” which are “dog-friendly.” (NBC)

  • We live in an intensely binary society. Non-binary people should be supported every single day of the year, and this Los Angeles LGBT Center reminder to listen to and support non-binary people can help get more people to think about what they can do better.
