$150M Awarded To Build 516 Homes For The Homeless In LA County

The state's latest round of Homekey funding includes awards for homeless housing projects across Los Angeles County.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The state on Wednesday announced $150 million in new funding for the construction of 516 homes for the homeless and those at risk of homelessness in Los Angeles County.

The money comes from the latest round of Homekey funding.

"Homekey continues to be one of California's most successful efforts to rapidly create housing for people struggling with homelessness," Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement. "Through this innovative approach, we have funded over 14,600 homes in communities all across the state."

Here are the recent Homekey funding awards in LA County, which includes the awards announced Wednesday:

  • $26.58 million for the Weingart Shelby project, which involves the acquisition and rehabilitation of an existing 78-unit assisted living facility into 78 units of interim supportive housing for people experiencing chronic homelessness
  • $18.22 million for the 4065 Oakwood project, which involves aquiring and rehabilitating a newly built market-rate apartment complex in order to create two studio, 25 one-bedroom and 41 two-bedroom units for people and families who are homeless or at risk for homelessness.
  • $9.37 million for the 4818 N. Sepulveda Blvd., which involves acquiring a newly constructed multifamily property. The finished project will provide permanent supportive housing for 34 households at or below 30 percent of the area median income, with half the units dedicated to people experiencing homelessness and half for those at risk of homelessness.
  • $7 million for the 3705 McLaughlin project, which involves acquiring a newly build apartment building and five newly constructed accessory dwelling units to create 25 permanent homes for households experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
  • $28.66 million for the Lancaster Pathway Home project, which involves acquiring and rehabilitating a hotel to create 102 studio units for people experiencing homelessness
  • $34.36 million for the Weingart Primrose project, which involves acquiring and rehabilitating a hotel to create 106 studios to serve 52 chronically homeless people and 53 people at risk of homelessness.
  • $28.66 million for the Knight's Inn Palmdale project, which involves the acquisition of a motel to create 100 permanent housing units for people experiencing homelessness.
