  1. There have been three freeway shootings in the last 24 hours. "All three of them seem to be independent. They do not seem to be related whatsoever," officials say. The most recent one was during rush hour on the 710, south of the 105. Another one was on the 710 near Florence. Finally, there was a shooting after the morning rush hour on the 91 around Carson. (CBS)
  2. Did you see the smoke on Wednesday morning? There was a brush fire “on the westbound State Route 118, Ronald Reagan Freeway, between Topanga Canyon Boulevard and De Soto Avenue.” The LAFD responded to what was dubbed the Canyon Fire and was able to contain the fire to three acres. (Patch)
  3. Are you one of the “landlords who have been impacted economically by the County’s Tenant Protections?” Are you unable to “meet property tax obligations” as a result? The Los Angeles County Treasurer and Tax Collector announced last week that you can submit a request to have penalties canceled after the April 11 payment deadline. (City of LA)
  4. The RAND Corporation released a report that suggests “repurposing commercial buildings, such as hotels, motels and vacant offices” will help to “reverse Los Angeles’s critical housing shortage.” We learned Wednesday that this could “provide 9% to 14% of the housing L.A. County needs to build over the next eight years.” There are an estimated 2,300 properties that could be turned into “72,000 to 113,000 housing units for L.A. County.” (LAist)
  5. Last month, the LAPD hosted a gun buy-back program. How did it go? According to LAPD Chief Michel Moore’s Tuesday report, the 17th buy-back day took “17 assault weapons and 250 other firearms, including 15 ghost guns” off the streets. "I believe it's a safer Los Angeles with those 267 fewer firearms. I recognize that the number of firearms in our communities is substantial, but every firearm off the street is one less firearm that can be used against another individual," he explained. (NBC)
