Altadena Library District Temporarily Moves To Curbside Service

ALTADENA, CA — The Altadena Library District will return to curbside service starting Thursday as officials announced the temporary closure of both library branches and the suspension of in-person programs.

The closure was done "out of an abundance of caution" amid a surge in COVID-19 cases brought on by the omicron variant of the coronavirus, the Altadena Library District said Monday.

"In the interim, library staff will return to the buildings, where they will follow enhanced safety protocols as they prepare for curbside services, which resume Thursday, Jan. 6," the district said in a statement.

Residents can request library materials for curbside pickup online or by calling 626-798-0833.

The new year brought 45,000 additional cases of COVID-19 to L.A. County, in part to the more transmissible omicron variant.

Public health officials in the county have encouraged continued masking in indoor areas and to limit high-risk activities where an individual could become exposed to the virus.

A significant way to protect against the coronavirus and its variants is to get the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
