- Angel Appliances at 8545 Sepulveda Blvd. has sat vacant since 2016. We learned Thursday that the property’s owner “donated this property to LA Family Housing to build permanent homes for veterans who have experienced homelessness.” There was a groundbreaking event for the 54-unit apartment complex. (ABC)
- Koreatown’s building project at the intersection of 8th Street and Serrano Avenue is taking shape. It will feature “157 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments and 12,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space at completion. Parking for 96 vehicles will also be located in a two-level subterranean garage.” Insiders believe that the building will be complete in January 2023. (Urbanize)
- Did you see the picket lines in front of LAX on Wednesday? These were catering workers who service flights at the airport. They say that a new health plan “could slash monthly earnings for employees by as much as $900.” This change affects around 600 employees and did not follow collective bargaining guidelines. The company says, “since we are providing zero-premium healthcare coverage to all of our LAX employees, we will discontinue the hourly supplement, also effective April 1.” (PE)
- LA rap artist and activist Nipsey Hussle was shot to death three years ago at the age of 33 in front of his clothing store. On Thursday, the third anniversary of the entrepreneur’s death, his former business partner wants to “have all gangbangers have a ceasefire.” “The young star's message and legacy can still be seen throughout LA, where dozens of murals portray his likeness.” (NBC)
- As of Wednesday, “the Los Angeles City Council officially lifted its COVID-19 vaccine proof requirement to enter restaurants, bars, concerts, movie theaters, gyms, and indoor city buildings.” Even so, these venues can choose to continue asking customers for proof of vaccination. (LA Eater)
