📢 Fireworks Poll!
Fireworks are illegal in the City of Los Angeles. Scofflaws may be fined $500, $1,000, or more. How do you feel about that? Please let me know your thoughts! (As of today, 78.8% don’t want fireworks, 16.2% want “safe and sane fireworks,” 3.7% want to choose what to buy, and another 1.2% don’t care one way or the other.)
Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:
- There was a motorcycle chase on Monday. It started in the South Bay around 10:15 a.m. and ended in an arrest in an alley. In between, it went “north into the downtown LA area before exiting onto streets in Echo Park” and from there to “Elysian Park before coming out onto Stadium Way and winding through a few neighborhoods near Dodger Stadium.” (NBC)
- Eunisses Hernandez took the weekend to declare victory in her race for the first district seat. The Monday vote count is 53% to 46%, which means the representation of “Glassell Park, Highland Park, Mount Washington, Westlake, Chinatown and Pico-Union” is determined. However, incumbent Gil Cedillo has not yet conceded defeat. (ABC)
- The Dodgers unveiled a statue honoring Sandy Koufax on Saturday. Made from bronze, you can see it at Dodger Stadium’s entrance in the Centerfield Plaza. You may remember that the statue was ordered back in 2019, but then COVID-19 got in the way of an unveiling. (ABC)
- Actor Kevin Hart wants to open Hart House, which is a restaurant serving “vegan burgers, “chicken” sandwiches and nuggets, fries, tots, salads and milkshakes.” We learned on Friday that there are two eateries in the works that will open over the summer in L.A. That said, the planned location is still being kept under wraps. (LA Eater)
- Mark your calendars! The Venice Summer Fest is coming Saturday to the Mar Vista Arts District on Venice Boulevard between Grand and Centinela. Starting at noon, there will be 150-plus local brands, LA's best food trucks and 20 performing artists. (Event Brite)
