Below-Freezing Temps To Return Thursday Night Across Swaths Of LA County
The cold isn't going away yet, but the intense winds that have battered the region are expected to calm Thursday and Friday.
LOS ANGELES, CA — The cold isn't going away just yet: Forecasters are expecting yet another frigid night across Los Angeles County, with temperatures dropping as low as the low 20s in some areas, according to the National Weather Service
A Frost Advisory is in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Friday when forecasters expect below-freezing temperatures to result in frost formation. The advisory covers the west San Fernando Valley and the Santa Clarita Valley.
It's expected to be even colder in the chilliest valleys of the Santa Monica Mountains, hitting the upper 20s. Elsewhere in the county, temperatures will drop to the low 40s in the LA Basin, the mid to upper 30s in the San Gabriel Valley and the mid to upper 30s in the east San Fernando Valley, according to the NWS.

The advisory follows several others issued this week, as temperatures have dropped below freezing in Los Angeles County valleys and deserts. On Tuesday morning, the NWS recorded lows in the mid-20s in the Antelope Valley and the low to upper 30s in the San Fernando Valley.
Low overnight temps are just one piece of intense weather that's been battering the Southland this week. Frigid conditions, combined with King Tides and hurricane-force winds prompted a series of weather warnings Wednesday and Thursday.

Winds hit 77 mph on Catalina Island Thursday morning, while the Santa Monica Mountains saw 59 mph winds. The maximum wind speeds hit 50 mph in the San Fernando Valley, 57 mph in the Santa Clarita Valley, 39 mph at Malibu's Leo Carillo State Beach, 46 mph at LAX and 47 mph in the Calabasas and Agoura Hills area, according to the NWS.
The winds are expected to calm significantly Thursday night into Friday.
Friday is expected to be sunny with highs in the low 60s, with slightly warmer temperatures overnight compared to the night before, according to the NWS.
Forecasters say that the frost expected early Friday morning can damage sensitive plants and harm pets if left unprotected.
