Happy Saturday, people of Los Angeles; today is National Bubble Tea Day, which was created in 2018 by Kung Fu Tea to commemorate its founding in 2010! Here's everything you need to know to get this day started off right.

A family of five is alive and unhurt after encountering a highway shooter. Also, is the gentrification of West Adams a good thing or not? Finally, it’s the perfect weekend to adopt a doggie!

Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. The CA Highway Patrol is looking for a black Nissan Rogue. On Friday morning, around 4:45 a.m., the Rogue, driven by a male with a female in the passenger seat, was on the 110 Freeway in DTLA. Someone from inside the Nissan fired into a Toyota Camry, which carried a family, including three young children. There were no injuries. If you have any information, please call CHP at 213-744-2331 or 323-259-3200. (KTLA)
  2. We learned on Wednesday that the CIM Group “is testing the notion that a single developer can turn around a chronically underfunded inner-city neighborhood, block by block, in the tight, 10-year time frame of a real estate investment fund.” Targeted is West Adams Boulevard and developments include apartments, “hipster bait,” and other spaces “to lure affluent tech and entertainment professionals.” In the past, the “neighborhood (was) occupied by auto mechanics, upholsterers, and pipe fitters, and long plagued by gang violence.” However, critics say that “the West Adams remake is displacing many of the Black and Latino families and entrepreneurs who gave the boulevard (its) distinctive character.” (Bloomberg)
  3. Los Angeles animal shelters are full! We learned April 23 that some dogs are sharing kennels. If there’s room in your heart and home for a dog, “the shelters are open without appointments on weekends” and there are discounts on adoptions! (KTLA)
  4. There’s a new baby boy Masai giraffe at the L.A. Zoo! An official Wednesday press release introduced us to the baby that “weighed 172 pounds and stood six feet seven inches tall at birth,” which is a record for the facility. “Masai giraffes are found in East Africa, specifically in southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. The animals can grow to be up to 17 feet tall and weigh 2,700 pounds.” (People)
  5. Have you been to a Los Angeles Dunkin' lately? Beginning Wednesday, you can buy the seasonal Dodgers Signature Latte! It is a “blueberry crisp latte made with Dunkin’s espresso and topped with whipped cream, caramel drizzle, and cinnamon sugar.” (NBC)
