Burkhart was driving with his girlfriend when he cut off the car driven by the boy's father on Sierra Highway in Lancaster Friday at around 7:30 p.m. Burkhart began following them along several streets before pulling alongside their vehicle and firing eight shots into their car, the DA's office said.
The boy, who was in the back seat, was struck once. His parents were not struck by the gunfire, according to the DA's office.
