This CA Restaurant Is The Best Place To Eat In America: Yelp

LOS ANGELES — The best place to eat in America is in a food hall in South Central Los Angeles, according to Yelp.

The business review website recently named Holbox as No. 1 on its Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. 2025. The ranking included a range of casual to fine-dining restaurants, and took into account ratings, review volume, community input and more.

Located in the food hall at Mercado La Paloma, Holbox serves Mexican seafood dishes with a focus on the country’s coastal regions as well as Southern California ingredients. In addition to its counter service option, the restaurant also hosts eight-course tasting menu dinners on Thursday and Friday. Menu standouts include the octopus, shrimp and bass ceviche; smoked fish tacos; spiny lobster; and whole grilled branzino.

Holbox has been widely lauded, with Chef Gilbert Cetina named a 2023 James Beard Award finalist for Best Chef: California. The restaurant last year received a Michelin star and in 2023 it was named Los Angeles Times Restaurant of the Year.

It also has a 4.8-star rating on Yelp with over 1,600 reviews.

Three other California eateries cracked Yelp’s top 10: Phonomenal in National City was No. 4, Wally’s Cafe in Rocklin was No. 6, and The Good Salad in Santa Clara was No. 8.
