📰 2022 News Poll 📍
There was a lot of bad news in 2022. However, there was some great news, too. Which was your favorite good news story of 2022?
📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:
- Monday night’s car chase came to an end near 1st Street and Central Avenue. Before that, the suspect, who was taken into custody, led law enforcement across two counties. Starting in Orange County, the suspect drove through “Pasadena, the San Gabriel Valley” and then ended up “passing the 110 Freeway near Century Boulevard and speeding across the Sixth Street Bridge.” Initially, the driver had tried to avoid a traffic stop. (ABC)
- Security camera footage shows two thieves driving off in “a dark red SUV” after burgling a home on Cheviot Hills’ Club Drive on Christmas Eve. The only one home at the time was the family’s dog. “The burglars used the side gates of the home, which were keycode-protected, and it was unclear if they hopped the fence or managed to figure out the passcode.” (KTLA)
- Why did Southwest Airlines’ flight cancellations account for more than 2,900 out of 3,000 on Monday? It’d be easy to blame the bomb cyclone, but that won’t explain why all the airline’s flights are “unavailable through Saturday.” The U.S. Department of Transportation plans to get answers. It “is concerned by Southwest's unacceptable rate of cancellations and delays and reports of lack of prompt customer service.” By comparison, “American, United, Delta and JetBlue, suffered cancellations rates of between none and 2% by Tuesday.” (Patch)
- OR Bar WeHo had its soft opening on December 15. The new gay bar is located at 8228 Santa Monica Boulevard, “inside for the former Gold Coast Bar space.” Gold Coast closed in 2020 after having been in business for 39 years. (The Pride LA)
- If you haven’t nailed down your New Year’s Eve plans yet, consider Grand Park’s NYELA. Festivities at 200 North Grand Avenue kick off at 8 p.m. It’s free, involves the famous “3D countdown light show projected onto L.A.’s iconic City Hall,” and promises lots of music and dance. Food trucks will sell refreshments; however, there won’t be any alcohol. (Grand Park LA)
