💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 22.2% want to mandate drought-resistant landscaping, 27.8% want to recycle wastewater for irrigation, another 27.8% want to build a desalination plant at the coast, and 22.2% don’t believe residential water use contributes to the water crisis.

Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

  1. On Thursday morning, the LAFD responded to a vehicle crash “at around 5:45 a.m. near Tweedy Boulevard and Stanford Avenue.” The driver hit a light pole. Both driver and passenger were trapped inside the car, but the first responders helped them escape. (Patch)
  2. Located at 110 N San Fernando Road, Mazal is an Israeli vegetarian restaurant. Earlier this week, the owner arrived at work to find “a swastika etched into our garage door.” “It’s heartbreaking and embarrassing that this is the reality in 2022,” the owner said. (Mazal)
  3. If you’re planning to travel over the holiday weekend, factor in the flight cancellation. “Los Angeles International Airport officials said they expect to see as many as 115,000 departing passengers passing through the airport each day Thursday through Saturday, and again next Tuesday and Wednesday,” officials reported on Thursday. However, on Thursday alone, there were 19 flight cancellations. (CBS)
  4. Move over Tesla, there’s another electric vehicle maker coming to town. Last week’s report explains that “Vietnamese electric-vehicle maker VinFast is on track to start US production of EVs in July 2024.” Construction of a manufacturing plant in North Carolina begins in September. US headquarters are set up in Los Angeles. A "VinFast Charged-Up Program" for customers making reservations for the cars is in operation. (Bloomberg, PR Newswire)
  5. How many mountain lions are there within the Los Angeles area? We learned on Thursday that since tracking them some 20 years ago, there are 100 collared ones in L.A. Once the wildlife bridge across Route 101 is built, it may bring down additional cats from the “Santa Monica Mountains and Simi Hills.” (KTLA)

Are you a Los Angeles resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
