🦃 Thanksgiving Poll!
Thanksgiving is on November 24th. How do you celebrate? So far, 46.7% celebrate a big meal as a family tradition, while 30% don’t celebrate and treat it like any other day. In a smaller group, 1.7% don’t celebrate because they feel it glorifies the conquest of Native Americans; however, 21.7% choose to celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving out of gratitude.

📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

1) The crazy car chase on Wednesday night that ended at the Hacienda Heights gas station is still the topic of conversation across fences and at water coolers. We learned on Friday that the suspect has been identified as a 32-year-old man with “an extensive criminal history with several convictions in L.A. County for carjacking, reckless evading, and joyriding.” Right now, he is being “held on a parole violation pending further charges.” (ABC)

2) COVID numbers in L.A. County are increasing. Without counting Pasadena and Long Beach, there were 1,662 new cases reported on Wednesday. Officials say this is an increase from numbers a week ago, meaning “daily average case numbers have been slowly but steadily increasing since the beginning of November.” If the trend continues, there’s a good chance that “the county will again strongly recommend that people wear masks indoors.” (Health Department, ABC)

3) Latest election update: The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder released updated results Thursday evening. In the City Council races, Katy Young Yaroslavsky and Hugo Soto-Martinez have gotten additional votes, solidifying their leads. In contrast, Rick Caruso’s lead evaporated, and Karen Bass currently has 50.38% of the votes. Another race to watch is the Board of Supervisors election for the 3rd District. Bob Hertzberg now has 50.28% of the vote. (Larchmont Buzz, Patch)

4) Last week, on Thursday, there was a fire at The Iliad Bookshop on 5400 Cahuenga Boulevard. Although the Los Angeles Fire Department extinguished the flames before they reached the books, there was worry that the smoke damage could make a good chunk of the inventory unsellable. “The owner said someone set fire to the back portion of the shop Thursday and left a flyer at the scene.” However, we learned earlier this week that the community has come together with an “outpouring of support from customers and neighbors.” (KESQ)

5) CBS Television City at 7800 Beverly Boulevard will celebrate its 70th anniversary next week. You may remember that the Los Angeles Conservancy assisted the Fairfax District venue with receiving its Historic-Cultural Monument designation in 2018. (Los Angeles Conservancy)
