The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Los Angeles.

Hello all; today is National Tape Measure Day, which celebrates the day that Alvin J. Fellows received a patent for the tool in 1868! I'm back in your inbox this summer morning to walk you through everything you need to know about what's happening these days in town. Here's the lowdown...
Some celebrities aren’t leading by example when it comes to saving water. Also, a restaurant entering into a NIL deal with a high school senior? Finally, the big rig convoy is wreaking havoc on the roads.

💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 17.9% want to mandate drought-resistant landscaping, 20% want to recycle wastewater for irrigation, another 42.1% want to build a desalination plant at the coast, and 20% don’t believe residential water use contributes to the water crisis.
Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:
- What do Kourtney Kardashian, Sylvester Stallone and The Game have in common? According to investigative reporter David Goldstein’s Wednesday report, they are among the celebrities who are going above their water budgets. What do Kevin Hart and Nas have in common? They kept going over their water budgets and merited the installation of a flow restrictor. (CBS)
- Slab Barbecue on West 3rd Street in Beverly Grove is making headlines. We learned on Wednesday that the company owning the eatery, h.wood Group, entered into a Name, Image, and Likeness deal with Los Alamitos High School quarterback (and future USC football team member) Malachi Nelson. “The amount of the deal is really small. It’s more about the relationship and a thing to get started in the world of business [for Nelson],” the Group’s co-founder explained. This is a first for a Los Angeles restaurant and amateur athlete. (LA Eater)
- Were you caught up in traffic “on the Vincent Thomas Bridge between Long Beach and San Pedro, and the 110 and 710 freeways” on Wednesday? It was likely due to a big rig convoy that formed in protest “of California legislation that is reclassifying truck drivers as gig workers.” Because this is a planned 24-hour work stoppage, there is a good chance you will have similar problems early on Thursday morning. (CBS)
- There was a structure fire at 1435 North Las Palmas Avenue, which is a two-story, vacant theater. Because the blaze was already coming through the roof, the LAFD focused “on protecting the surrounding buildings first.” (LAFD, 2, 3)
- Mark your calendars! If you have not already done so, you have until July 24 to visit the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts to see Hershey Felder as Monsieur Chopin. “In Monsieur Chopin, Hershey features some of the pianist-composer's most beautiful and enduring music while entertaining us in his unique and theatrical style.” (DoLA)

- A Silver Lake Effie neighbor says there are some people selling puppies at the grassy “knoll” of Silverlake. (Nextdoor)
- A neighbor in the Beverly Grove area asks if anyone knows why Pizzeria Il Fico is closed? 💔 (Nextdoor)
- Our Atwater Village neighbor is wondering if anyone knows of any discounts for Six Flags or Universal Studios? 😁 (Nextdoor)
