CHP Ramps Up DUI Patrols On LA County Freeways For New Years

The CHP will have additional officers on patrol for New Year's.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The California Highway Patrol plans to send out extra officers on Los Angeles County freeways tonight as part of its "New Year’s Holiday Enforcement Period."

The agency announced this week that it will boost patrols statewide from 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve through the end of New Year's Day.

During last year's New Year's enforcement period, the CHP reported 10 fatal crashes and 481 arrests statewide for driving under the influence.

And over the Christmas enforcement period this year, the CHP reported making 297 DUI arrests.

“We’re entering a new year, but our message stays the same. Driving under the influence increases the risks on our roads, raises the chance of a crash, and puts lives in danger. We encourage everyone to do their part in keeping our roads safe by making responsible choices behind the wheel," CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee said.
