📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

1) Victory Baptist Church Fire Update: On September 11, the historic church at 4802 South McKinley Avenue fell victim to a blaze. “Investigators and the multi-agency House of Worship Arson Task Force” went to work looking for clues. On Monday, officials announced the arrest of a “23-year-old unhoused male” as being the arson suspect. At this time, he’ll be charged with "arson of a structure." However, more charges may be made. (Los Angeles Fire Department)

2) Located at 14850 Roscoe Boulevard, Panorama City’s Mission Community Hospital was the scene of a stabbing Monday. A 49-year-old employee was assaulted “by a man with a knife” around 6:30 pm. “Hospital officials did not know whether the assailant and employee knew each other, or whether the attack was random.” (KESQ)

3) Lockwood Avenue Elementary at 4345 Lockwood Avenue holds the dubious distinction of being at the top of the LAUSD’s greening index. Serving around 350 learners, it only has a combined green space of “half a tennis court.” “I’m working with (district facilities personnel) to identify spaces we can turn into green spaces,” the principal explained. “However, she needs to talk to teacher, parents and others about greening ideas.” (The Eastsider LA)

4) On Monday, there was a groundbreaking for a multifamily building in what used to be the Southside Church of Christ parking lot. The church building is located at 1655 West Manchester Avenue. It “will be built on a .82-acre lot right next to the church” and benefit “homeless and independent-living seniors in South LA.” It will take an estimated 18 months to build the 50 housing units. (Spectrum News 1)

5) Mark your calendars! The American Film Institute Fest starts on November 2 and runs through the 6th. Tickets will go on sale next month for the TCL Chinese Theater venue. It will feature works “including films from Alejandro González Iñárritu, Guillermo del Toro, Maria Schrader and Florian Zeller.” (Hollywood Reporter)
