Chance Of Rain, Cool Temps, Powerful Wind In Store For LA County Following Record Heat

Cooler temperatures, slight rain, and sunny skies are expected this week following a record-breaking heat wave over the weekend.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Following a record-breaking heatwave this past weekend, Los Angeles County can expect cooler temperatures, light rain and strong wind Monday and Tuesday.

High temperatures on Saturday shattered several longstanding heat records in Los Angeles, including Woodland Hills, where temperatures reached 103 degrees, and Long Beach, where it was 95 degrees. But a dramatic cooldown has since started, with temperatures dropping about 30 degrees between Saturday and Monday.

The weather whiplash will continue with a chance of drizzle and scattered showers Monday night and Tuesday morning across Los Angeles County, according to the National Weather Service.

"Strong and gusty winds will affect portions of SW California and the coastal waters through Tuesday night," the National Weather Service warned. "Hazardous driving conditions can be expected in the windiest areas. There will also be dangerous seas for mariners."

Sunny skies are still in order for most of the week, although some Los Angeles County residents may experience light rain late Monday and Tuesday morning as the National Weather Service predicts patchy drizzle and fog before 11 a.m.

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain in the low 70s in Los Angeles County over the next week, with cooler nighttime temperatures in the high 50s, according to the NWS.

Along with a drop in temperature, the National Weather Service predicts moderate winds across Los Angeles County, especially along the coastline, through Tuesday night.

Most of Los Angeles County could see winds between 5 to 15 miles, according to the NWS. While coastal cities such as Redondo Beach and Palos Verdes could experience winds of up to 25 miles per hour.

A gale watch advisory has also been issued by the NWS along those coastline cities, warning of potentially dangerous conditions for people out at sea.

Heading into the next weekend, temperatures are expected to remain moderate with patchy morning fog in Los Angeles. The same weather pattern — a cooldown with increased wind gusts and a chance of drizzle — is expected next weekend.
