  1. There was a deadly drive-by shooting Tuesday night in the 5300 block of Hyde Street. “The victim, a woman in her 30s, was standing on a balcony when a car pulled up and a gunman opened fire on the building, police said.” (Patch)
  2. A Wednesday data roundup confirms that living in L.A. is expensive. “The cost of living in Los Angeles is nearly 12% higher than the U.S. average,” with an average apartment rent of $2,661 per month. Even so, there are some areas that are more affordable than others. “North of Montana is the most expensive neighborhood, with average rents topping out at more than $4,500 a month. Vermont Vista and Vermont Knolls are the cheapest neighborhoods. Rents there average out to around $1,500 a month.” (Fox 11)
  3. A couple of home invasion robbers did not expect a resident to be armed. Wednesday at around 1:30 a.m. they entered a Beverly Grove area home, the owner fired “twice, and they ran like bunnies.” (ABC)
  4. JPMorgan Chase announced Wednesday “a three-year, $5 million commitment to support the Open Air Economy Collaborative.” The goal of the Collaborative is “help local Black and Latinx street vendors strengthen their businesses, which provide economic opportunities for low-income and immigrant workers, and play an important role to promote food access across Los Angeles County.” (LA Sentinel)
  5. Tex Hammond is the youngest artist to ever exhibit at the L.A. Art Show. At just 14 years of age, “his most recent exhibition, titled ‘Major Minor,’ illuminated the teen’s perspective during the pandemic.” Hammond, who is now 15, is currently preparing for his first exhibition in New York City.
