Detectives Search Landfill For Missing LA County Newborn

Missing for more than a week, infant Baki Dewees​' parents have been arrested in Utah.

PALMDALE , CA — Detectives are combing a Los Angeles County landfill Wednesday in the search for a missing newborn last seen on May 3.

Three-week-old Baki Dewees, of Palmdale, hasn't been seen for more than a week, and his parents were recently arrested on unrelated charges in Utah, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

The investigation quickly transitioned from a report of a missing person into a homicide case, according to authorities. It started with a report of a missing child at a home in the 2300 block of Carolyn Drive in Palmdale on Tuesday.

According to a flyer put out by the missing child's family, the baby boy was born on April 14 and was last seen alive on May 3 with his father, 24-year-old Yusuf Dewees .

"During the early stages, the investigation transitioned from a missing child search to a death investigation," sheriff's officials announced in a written statement. "Search operations are being conducted to locate the remains of the infant."

Authorities began searching an Antelope Valley landfill for the missing baby.

According to NBC News, the baby's parents have three other children, and his mother was arrested Roselani Gaoa, 25, was arrested two days after his birth on charges of intentional child abuse, reckless child abuse and aggravated child abuse. His father was arrested on May 7 on charges of obstruction of justice and making a false statement to be used at a preliminary hearing, NBC reported.
