Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
- A big rig is thought to have sparked a brush fire “on a hillside north of the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway in the Diamond Bar area.” Early reports came in at 11:30 a.m. on Monday from around Phillips Ranch Road. The LAFD deployed water-dropping helicopters. You may have been caught up in the 60 Freeway closure that resulted. (Patch)
- There was a traffic collision on Monday near Taft Elementary School in Santa Ana. A vehicle drove onto a sidewalk and struck three kids. “Police said that the suspect had trespassed into Taft before the collision and was escorted off campus.” It is concerning that the police found incendiary devices inside the vehicle. (NBC)
- A rented truck drove around West Hollywood and Beverly Hills this last weekend. What makes this a head-scratcher is the fact that its sides were covered in anti-Semitic messages. Of course, with the license plate in place, it shouldn’t take the LAPD long to figure out who rented it. What is odd, however, is that two men appeared to film the crowd's reaction at a gas station. “The angry crowd told the two men to leave, but according to the WeHo Social Justice Coalition, there were also other supporters and corroborators there defending the two men and free speech.” (NBC)
- Why is the “LA Homeless Services Authority throwing away cases of food meant to be distributed?” CBS revealed a hidden camera report that shows employees throwing away usable food. (CBS)
- Mark your calendars! The Mid-City taco restaurant Sonoratown will open on Tuesday next week! If you are a loyal customer of the first location in the Fashion District, head to 5610 San Vicente and support the new venue! (Eater L.A.)

- Our Los Feliz Hills area neighbor wants to know what will replace our Palace restaurant? Have you noticed the new construction? What is being built here? (Nextdoor)
- A Glassell Park neighbor appreciates the kind neighbor who redelivered their package. Thank You! (Nextdoor)
- Our West LA-Municipal Area neighbor is wondering if anybody else noticed the sharp decline in birds this spring? They used to hear so many every morning and see so many. It’s the first time in decades the doves have not returned to build nests in their porch. (Nextdoor)
- A neighbor in the Brentwood-Montana/S. Vicente area needs help finding a young rooster a home. They found him in Chino Hills at the Euclid exit on the 71. He was going up to cars as if to ask someone for help. He has a great personality, super mellow, he likes to talk, cuddle and be petted. (Nextdoor)
