🍪 Holiday Treats Poll! 🎄
December is the month for holiday treats and goodies. Which is your favorite? So far, 38.5% love See’s Candies, while 13.5% look forward to sugar cookies. Peppermint bark appeals to 7.7%, and eggnog has a loyal following of 34.6%. Poached pears and King Cake are favorites for 1.9% each.
📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
1) Do you remember when the Los Angeles City Council passed ordinance 41.18, which banned homeless encampments within 500 feet of schools? As of Thursday, this ordinance is not uniformly enforced. A case in point is Virgil Middle School at 152 North Vermont Avenue. It shares a wall with an encampment. Students report seeing fires there during PE, and homeless people trying to “go into the school and ask for money.” Councilman-elect Hugo Soto-Martinez, who will represent District 13, already noted that “he would vote to repeal the ordinance.” (ABC)
2) It's not a good time to be a small dog in the Hollywood Hills. Just before midnight last Friday, a mountain lion attacked a leashed Chihuahua being taken for a walk. This dog survived the attack. “Video shows the mountain lion continued to roam the neighborhood even after the attack.” (KRON)
3) We learned on Thursday that Loyola Marymount University’s undergraduate School of Film and Television is getting a new outdoor theater and academic facility. As the Howard B. Fitzpatrick Pavilion, it will bring “state-of-the-art film studios and post-production and animation labs and the open-air Drollinger Family Stage to the 150-acre campus.” (The Architect’s Newspaper)
4) If you looked up on Wednesday, you might have done a double take. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) was transporting Santa Claus to the Los Angeles Orthopedic Hospital. It's an annual tradition that involves the police helicopter and Santa handing out gifts to the kids at the hospital. What made this a nail-biter was that Santa sat outside the 'copter on the landing skid! (LAPDHQ)
5) On Thursday, Snoop Dogg and Philipp Plein opened a joint venture pop-up for Plein Dogg silhouette sneakers. The shoes come “in two different colorways, including one that takes inspiration from the Los Angeles Lakers’ familiar purple-focused logo.” You have until Sunday to head over to SoleStage at 455 North Fairfax Avenue and get yours.
