🦃 Thanksgiving Poll!
Thanksgiving is on November 24th. How do you celebrate? So far, 47.3% celebrate a big meal as a family tradition, while 29.1% don’t celebrate and treat it like any other day. In a smaller group, 1.8% don’t celebrate because they feel it glorifies the conquest of Native Americans; however, 21.8% choose to celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving out of gratitude.

📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:

1) Were you caught up in Thursday morning’s closure of the 101 Freeway? Someone was being served an eviction notice in an apartment building on the 2300 block of Cahuenga Boulevard right around 8 a.m. Rather than a routine process, it became a “standoff with reports of gunfire at the scene,” which prompted a freeway closure near the Cahuenga Pass and street closures in the immediate neighborhood. Crisis negotiators were called to defuse the situation. However, "authorities later entered and found a person dead of 'an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.'" (Patch, KTLA)

2) Recent news has reported on L.A.’s rat problem. However, on Thursday, we learned that the city also has a feral cat problem. Estimates suggest that “as many as 3 million feral cats roam the streets of Los Angeles and could soon match the city’s human population of roughly 3.9 million.” Rescue groups have been working on trapping, neutering/sterilizing, and then releasing the felines. It is interesting to note that the city is barred from participating in this action because of a lawsuit some time ago. (KTLA)

3) The Los Angeles County Health Department wants you to stay out of the ocean. The agency announced Thursday that the recent rainfall resulted in high bacteria levels near the beaches “caused by storm water runoff that can contain chemicals, debris and other health hazards.” Exposure can result in rashes, infections, and gastrointestinal upset. (KABC)

4) The Hip Hop Nutcracker is coming to the Dolby Theatre! The performance will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. If you are unfamiliar with this show, think of it as “Tchaikovsky’s Score, Hip Hop Dance, NYC Style.” It’s a great way to get into the holiday spirit! (Hip Hop Nutcracker)

5) A shoutout to Lieutenant Margarita Rios! We learned on Thursday that she completed the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute Class 495. Rios is a member of the Los Angeles School Police. (LA School Police)
