SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed on Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

The massive fires remain top of mind. Even though relatively calm conditions have helped firefighters make progress on containing the Palisades and Eaton fires, gusty Santa Ana winds are expected to bring extreme fire conditions over the next week.

Amid the devastation, the community and leaders are offering various forms of relief, from arts grants to mortgage relief. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass appointed Steven Soboroff, a businessman, philanthropist, and longtime Los Angeles Police Commissioner, to spearhead the rebuilding effort.
