🦃 Thanksgiving Poll!
Thanksgiving is on November 24th. How do you celebrate? So far, 44.4% celebrate a big meal as a family tradition, while 29.6% don’t celebrate and treat it like any other day. In a smaller group, 1.2% don’t celebrate because they feel it glorifies the conquest of Native Americans; however, 24.7% choose to celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving out of gratitude.
📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
1) On Thursday morning, there was a carport fire at an apartment building on East 61st Street. The blaze began at 11:45 a.m., and the Los Angeles Fire Department “found multiple vehicles engulfed in flames.” Firefighters put out the fire in 15 minutes and kept it from damaging the building’s interior. “Investigators were working to determine how many vehicles were damaged during the blaze.” (CBS)
2) Did you have to find a different coffee shop for your morning cup on Thursday? Unionized Starbucks workers staged a “Red Rebellion” at various locations. In L.A., the affected stores were at 3241 North Figueroa Street and 138 South Central Avenue. Workers picked this day because it's “Red Cup Day, a day in which the company hands out its signature reusable holiday red cups to customers who buy holiday-themed drinks.” Workers demand “better pay, higher staffing and consistent schedules.” (Patch)
3) If you like being driven in an autonomous vehicle, you can get your wish. Motional’s fleet of Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicles can be hailed via the Lyft app — once the service goes live in Los Angeles. “We plan to reveal timing when we are closer to launch,” the company stated, and insiders believe that sometime in January may be the target date. (The Verge)
4) Who was throwing things at Harry Styles on Tuesday? The artist was pelted with small flying objects at the end of his performance at the Kia Forum. Scuttlebutt says the objects were Skittles candy; the company making the product took to Twitter and pointed out, “Didn’t think I needed to say this: Please don’t throw Skittles.” Previously, Styles has been hit with a bottle and chicken nuggets. (Fox)
5) On Saturday, head to the National History Museum for a Kneaded Bread Fest. It runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 900 Exposition Boulevard location. “Enjoy performances and presentations, visit a pop-up bread-themed exhibit, get an up-close look at our bread-related museum collections, and participate in wheat-planting lessons and hands-on activities.” There will be ASL interpretation.
