Grenade Scare Evacuates Valley Recycling Center
The discovery of a device that appeared to be a grenade prompted the evacuation of a Burbank recycling center Tuesday morning.
BURBANK, CA — The discovery of a device resembling a grenade at a San Fernando Valley recycling center prompted the evacuation of the property Tuesday morning, but authorities later determined the item was inert.
The device was found at around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at Burbank Recycling Center at 500 S. Flower St., near the 5 Freeway, according to the Burbank Police Department.
A report from the scene indicated the device was found on a conveyor belt at the center, which was evacuated following the discovery.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Arson & Explosives Detail responded to determine the nature of the device and ensure the public's safety, police said.
"The device was determined to not contain any explosive material and the area has be reopened," police said at around 9:40 a.m.
