Hazmat Team Responds To Los Angeles Federal Building

A hazardous materials team responded to a Los Angeles federal building Tuesday afternoon.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Two people were medically assessed after a hazardous materials detection system went off at the federal jail in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday afternoon.

An automated detection system in the mailroom of the Metropolitan Detention Center alerted to the possible presence of hazardous materials Tuesday afternoon, prompting a response from the Los Angeles Fire Department and hazardous materials personnel, according to to the LAFD.

Two employees were assessed for exposure. Both were asymptomatic and released at the scene, authorities said.
