📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

1) On Thursday, an 89-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver near East 109th Street and South Central Avenue. She was “walking outside a crosswalk” when a dark-colored “early-model, medium-sized Chevrolet” hit her and fled. If you have any information, please call Crime Stoppers at 800-222- 8477. (KTLA)

2) There was a house fire Friday morning at 1456 West Hepner Avenue. “The Los Angeles Fire Department said four people were inside the home at the time, but only three of them managed to escape.” Firefighters acknowledge reports that “no functioning smoke alarms were in the home.” However, witness reports said that all four people got out, but then one “went back inside (and) was later found dead.” The cause of the fire might have been a space heater. (ABC, NBC, KTLA)

3) The Scattergood Generating Station in Playa del Rey will begin burning “green hydrogen instead of natural gas.” We learned on Friday that the City Council considers this move imperative to meet the city’s goal “of achieving 100% clean energy by 2035.” However, critics point to a lack of transparency, and explain that “hydrogen still produces emissions that can threaten the climate, would require more than 122 million gallons of water to power the plant and cost more than solar, wind or battery storage.” Outgoing Councilman Mike Bonin had previously weighed in, stating that we do not yet understand the “full environmental impact of green hydrogen.” (KCET)

4) Yes, it really was an anime character you saw. The Comic Con kicks off today, Friday, at the Convention Center and will run through Sunday. Fans have spoken and demanded more anime and gaming, and organizers were happy to accommodate them with “an entire Anime Zone where visitors can take selfies with giant inflatables and images of their favorite characters.” Hours are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday. (KTLA)

5) Starbucks Workers United is planning a rally on December 9 at 7 a.m. Head over to 3311 North Figueroa to join “Starbucks partners, teachers, LGBTQ+ workers, local officials, and union allies.” (United Teachers Los Angeles)
